The Tees Valley Digital Innovation Survey report 2024 is here!

In the last few months, we’ve moved to our new home in Middlesbrough’s Boho Zone, we’ve welcomed Leo as a junior developer, and we’re now delighted to introduce Jonathan to the Embeddable team in our first apprenticeship role.

Having spent almost a decade in the financial sector, Jonathan joins Embeddable as an apprentice web developer, and takes his first steps into the technology industry as part of our team.

So, over to you, Jonathan!

Jonathan, tell us a little bit about yourself…

After spending 10 years in a different career at Santander, I made the decision three years ago to pursue a career in web development. I taught myself the necessary skills while balancing my course, work, and family commitments.

This hard work ultimately led to my first role as an apprentice Web Developer at Embeddable, where I’m excited to continue growing and applying my skills.

What made you want to move towards a career in tech?

I’m a problem solver at heart and really enjoy continuously learning so with that in mind I thought it would suit me, and that proved to be the case as I felt straight away when working through the course this was the thing for me.

Now that you’re in the industry, what do you enjoy most about working in technology?

Putting into practice what you learn and seeing that end result in a project or a problem that you’ve solved is really rewarding.

What’s one problem that you’ve been able to solve for yourself with tech?

Recently, I worked with a team to build a smart shopping app that learns user habits and suggests items they buy regularly. It’s been a huge time-saver and much easier than trying to remember what I need or jotting it down in my notes!

What advice would you give to someone who’s thinking of changing their career towards something in tech?

Alongside doing your particular course, bootcamp etc I’d say to put yourself out there by attending local meetups and conferences. You never know who you could get talking to there and how it could help you down the line.
