Early-stage Work

Fixed-scope, structured work that brings clarity to an idea, an opportunity, or a problem, before you commit time and money to it.

Clarity, before commitment

Discovery is for the point before the big decisions are made: when an idea feels right but isn’t yet proven, or when there’s an opportunity in front of you and the cost of getting it wrong is real. We bring structure and senior judgement to that moment, so you move forward on evidence rather than instinct.

Discovery is clearly scoped. We agree what we’re answering, what you’ll receive, and what it costs, up front.

How it works

When discovery helps

Discovery is most useful when:

  • An idea needs validating

You can see the opportunity, but want to know whether it stands up before you build.

  • You need clarity before investing

You’re about to commit, whether that’s time, money, or resource, and want to be sure it’s the right move.

  • You need to prioritise opportunities

There’s more than one path, and you need a clear-eyed view of which is worth pursuing.

Start with Discovery

What this looks like in practice

We start by understanding the opportunity and the thinking behind it.

From there, we pressure-test the assumptions, assess what’s feasible and what it would realistically cost, and identify where the risk actually sits. We avoid shortcuts that feel fast today, but costly tomorrow.

What you’ll get:

  • Viability: whether the idea or opportunity stands up, and on what terms.

  • Cost: what it would realistically take to pursue it.

  • Next steps: a defined, sensible path forward, or a clear case for stopping.

We take on discovery selectively. It works best where there’s a credible path to funding, real traction, or domain expertise behind the opportunity. If that’s you, we can help you move faster and avoid expensive mistakes.

Where discovery can lead

Sometimes a discovery is all you need. Sometimes it’s the start of something larger: shaping and building an early version of the product, preparing for investment, or bringing in senior technology leadership as a Fractional CTO.
